I’m no stranger to the internet of today (surfing since 1995; cowabunga!), but I normally stick to a pretty narrow corridor encompassing my interests, which includes cryptocurrency. So I can be completely ignorant of things which everyone else seems to know about. As I’m somewhat new to Medium, I’ve obviously noticed the “buy me a coffee” trend. Since I’m all for more sharing in the economy, it does my heart good to see.
Crypto is growing as a disrupting factor in many industries such as finance and gaming, but it also includes simple things like browsing the internet. The Brave Browser comes with ad and pop-up blocking, as well as anti-tracking measures. It will show you ads, but only if you click on them. And if you do, it will reward you with BAT, or their Basic Attention Token.
You will need a wallet to collect your BAT each month from your ad-viewing. Personally, I use the Uphold wallet and just signed up for their digital debit card. I don’t do a lot of ads, but I’ll spend a little time on them if I have it. It’s not much, but it’s one of many revenue streams I use. In the past, you could only redeem BAT for gift cards. Later they added swaps, for other coins like Bitcoin, which I took advantage of and am feeling good about. They also have a Creator Program where any other Brave user can tip you their BAT.
