Or, How I Learned to NOT Hate Voting and Love the Ballot

Premise Beach

The American political system as it stands in 2021 is a travesty. It has been subsumed by a collection of elitist demagogues who are only interested in enriching themselves and those close to them. They engage in political theater rather than making the hard decisions that are necessary to navigate through this tumultuous period of history.

The two-party stranglehold has only served to divide the American people with wedge issues, limiting choice and opportunity. Our nation can’t function this way, and the current “debate” over the debt ceiling is evidence of this. Our politicians don’t solve problems. They fail to look beyond the date of the next election, putting their career ahead of what’s best for the greatest amount of people.

As such, they should be targets of our disdain and mockery. Principles and morals go right out the window when greed and personal ambition rule. Corrupt, yet legal, practices like nepotism and trading stocks with privileged information do nothing to help the average person or make America better. The corrosive nature of Washington D.C. is a cancer, and it won’t be excised until enough people take a stand.
